Jennie Churchill was a wealthy American raised to believe that she would always be atop of society. Trading wealth for title, she married the son of an English duke and proved a tremendous asset to his political career. Jennie had multiple lovers, including the Prince of Wales, and yet largely avoided criticism or scandal. Her great beauty and irrepressible spirits also worked their magic on her son Winston and aided him in scaling the heights of the political landscape. This illustrated talk by Dr. Nancy Parrish, author of the book "The Downton Era: Great Houses, Churchills, and Mitfords," will trace the rise of these two indomitable figures who never failed in their chosen conquests.
